Have you ever bought a gift
card for family or friends? Have you ever used a gift card in a
store? If so, you have used Scrip, or translated “Substitute
Money”. Living Lord is joining thousands of non-profit
organizations around the country and will be starting a Scrip
program here at the church.
What is
Scrip?
Scrip is literally, substitute money. It is the gift card that you
purchase or redeem at a store. Scrip is issued by the national
and local retailers where you already shop. These merchants want
to support non-profit organizations like churches and in return
want you to support them by shopping at their stores.
How does it
work?
Instead of buying gift cards from individual stores, you buy your gift
cards through us. There is no additional cost to you. If you want
a $25 Bealls card, it will cost you $25. We purchase the cards for
you from a national scrip center. Every card purchase gives
Living Lord a percentage of the sale amount as direct revenue.
For example, for every $25 Bealls card we purchase, we make
9%...that’s $2.25 in revenue to the church for each and every
Bealls card sold!
What stores are
represented?
There
are hundreds of stores and services that are available for us to
buy gift cards from. An order form is attached which lists the
participating retailers which we will be using and the dollar
denomination of cards available for purchase.
How does
ordering work?
Scrip order sheets are in the box on the Fellowship bulletin board in
the Narthex. Extras are available in the church office. We
will also have an order sheet online at our website (www.livinglordfl.org)
for you to download and print. Simply fill out the sheet,
attach a check made out to Living Lord Lutheran Church for the
amount of your purchase, and drop the order sheet in the
collection plate. During the week your order sheet can be given
to our secretary, Maggie during regular church office hours.

Then what?
The full church order will be
submitted to the scrip center on the 2nd Monday of each month and
your gift cards will be at the church and available for pick
up on the next Sunday. We will help
deliver cards before and after each church service. They will also
be available for pick up during the week at the church office. As
participation increases we will increase the frequency of order
submission, hopefully to the point of once per week.
How do I
use the cards?
Most of you are already familiar with these gift cards. Give them as
presents. Or, simply use them yourself to pay for your purchase
instead of using cash, check, or credit card. Did you know that
the cards can also be used to pay for your online or phone orders
with each merchant? When you place your order, just enter the gift
card number in the payment space for gift card redemption, or give
the number to the phone representative.
Where does
the revenue go?
Revenue
from this program will go to directly benefit the church and the
congregation. Our church has a wonderful reputation for service
and outreach to the community. However, we also must take care of
the needs within our walls. Funds from this program will provide
for equipment, programs, and activities within the church
itself...keeping our foundation
strong so that Living Lord can continue its
outstanding work in the community. An accounting of the program
will be printed quarterly in the Fellowship Times.

The revenue potential from this program is substantial, but it depends
on your participation. We are asking you to buy gift cards from
us. In addition, however, we would like you to buy and use these
cards yourself for everyday purchases you would normally make.
This is a new way of thinking, because you have to plan ahead. We
ask each family to try using just one card with one merchant this
month. Get used to the idea of using a gift card for your
purchases. Then, slowly expand the number of cards you use each
month.....
How about a Blockbuster single video rental card for $3.79 (we
make 15%)...
Going to the movies? Use a card to pay for your ticket and
concessions...8%
Or use your $10 Starbucks card to pay for your next Frappacino (we
make 7%)...
Going to Lowes or Home Depot this month? Each card we sell gives us
3-4%...
Do you shop at Albertson’s or Winn Dixie? Buy clothes from Old
Navy, JCPenny, or Sears? Get gas from Exxon, Shell, BP? 2,3,4,5%
or more to the church....
Do you get your medications from Walgreens or CVS? 2-4% to the
church!
Buying a Honey Baked Ham for Easter? (Never too early to plan!) 12%
to the church!
The list goes on...Airline tickets, hotels, oil changes... A

The more
accustomed we become to using scrip for our everyday purchases,
the more our church revenue will grow!
